Papers, 1831-1906.

This collection of original papers and research notebooks was compiled during the early 1900s as a genealogical study by Francis Henry Lee (1836- ) of Salem, Mass., a grandson of Joseph Warner Rose. They include many notes from various sources on the families of John Rose and his brother Stephen Rose (c. 1739-1777); "Barbados Notes" which contain research on business, legal, and baptismal records, 1648 to 1731; a book of Lee's instructions to himself on research methods to be used in Antigua; and a book of vital family records and copies of wills, deeds, and letters from Lee's relatives concerning his research. The folder contains several original family letters and legal documents, 1831 to 1856, including the granting of powers of attorney and release of legacy, copies of Joseph Warner Rose's will and a genealogical chart, and notes on the history of Antigua. See also the collection of Paine family papers, for correspondence of Harriet Paine Rose and Joseph Warner Rose.
